REGIS ELECTRIC has completed a 6 kWp solar installation in Mougins, featuring twelve low-carbon Jinko Solar panels rated at 500 Wp each. Combined with a Shelly energy management system controlling the swimming pool pump and water heater, the installation is expected to generate approximately 8,000 kWh of electricity per year.

This project reflects our approach: matching solar generation to the household’s needs while paying close attention to the finish, right down to the cable routing.

Around 8,000 kWh of solar electricity per year for the home

The purpose of this installation is to reduce the household’s reliance on grid electricity by using energy generated on site.

For this property in Mougins, estimated annual generation is approximately 8,000 kWh. Actual output depends on sunlight, roof orientation, tilt and shading. This figure is an estimate rather than a production guarantee.

Annual generation alone does not mean complete energy independence. Solar panels generate electricity during daylight hours, while the home also uses power in the evening and overnight. Making good use of the installation therefore also means using electricity when solar generation is available.

Shelly energy management for the pool pump and water heater

We added an energy management system, or EMS, to control two appliances: the swimming pool filtration pump and the water heater.

Some of their electricity use can be shifted to periods of solar generation. This helps the household use more of its own solar electricity while maintaining the required pool filtration and hot water supply.

Settings need to account for household routines, appliance specifications and seasonal requirements. The aim is to make better use of solar generation while maintaining everyday comfort.

Low-carbon solar panels and France’s reduced 5.5% VAT rate

For this 6 kWp installation, we selected low-carbon Jinko Solar panels rated at 500 Wp each, alongside a Shelly energy management system.

In France, a reduced VAT rate of 5.5% may apply to the supply and installation of residential solar systems with an installed capacity of up to and including 9 kWp, provided all applicable regulatory conditions are met.

A “low-carbon” designation alone is not sufficient. The panels must meet the specified environmental criteria, and the installation must include an energy management system meeting the relevant requirements. Eligibility must therefore be checked against the exact equipment references and supporting documentation.

Carefully aligned panels and discreet cable routing

The quality of a solar installation is also reflected in its finish.

On this project in Mougins, we paid particular attention to the levelling and alignment of the panels to achieve a neat, consistent appearance.

To preserve the appearance of the house, we proposed concealing the cables within a decorative gutter. This creates a discreet cable route that blends into the exterior of the property.

Attention to these details is part of our work: delivering a functional installation that also sits neatly within its surroundings.

Solar panels and EV charging in Mougins: planning them together

A solar project can also be an opportunity to plan for electric vehicle charging.

With a compatible EV charger and control system, some of the solar electricity can be used to charge a vehicle while it is parked at home. The benefit depends on when the vehicle is available, the solar output and the electricity being used by other appliances.

REGIS ELECTRIC holds RGE QualiPV and IRVE Recharge+ qualifications and supports solar panel and EV charger installation projects in Mougins. Considering these needs together helps us tailor the equipment and its controls to each property.

Frequently asked questions

How many 500 Wp panels are needed for a 6 kWp solar installation?

Twelve 500 Wp panels provide a total peak capacity of 6,000 Wp, or 6 kWp.

How much electricity can a 6 kWp solar installation generate in Mougins?

For the project featured here, annual generation is estimated at approximately 8,000 kWh. Another roof in Mougins may achieve a different result depending on its orientation, tilt and shading. Each property requires its own assessment.

Can solar panels power a swimming pool pump and water heater?

Yes. Solar electricity can supply these appliances through the home’s electrical installation. An energy management system can help prioritise their operation during periods of solar generation, subject to the settings and operating requirements of the appliances.

Can an EV charger be combined with a solar installation?

Yes, provided the equipment and system configuration are compatible. The design and controls must take account of the vehicle, charger, available electrical capacity and charging times.
